Offices and laboratories made of wood in Bolzano

Hovering for science

Modern: The NOI Techpark in Bolzano was founded in 2017 as a technology and science park in Bolzano and realised on the site of a disused industrial complex. The architects chose a solution with a modern appearance for the regeneration: Boxes made of black impregnated cross-laminated timber in industrial quality were installed on three levels, with those on the second and third floors equally floating in the building.

The Autonomous Province of Bolzano has commissioned the planning of the NOI Techpark to Chapman Taylor, Claudio Lucchin & architetti associati and Geom. Andrea Cattacin with the planning of the NOI Techpark. It is designed as a start-up centre and supports technology-oriented, innovative start-ups, young companies and growth-oriented start-up projects. Today, the premises are home to offices and laboratories. As the former industrial building was partially under a preservation order, special care had to be taken during construction. The major challenge for LignoAlp was the assembly in the existing hall: The timber elements had to be threaded into the existing load-bearing structure of the hall - columns and beams made of reinforced concrete - and fixed in place in precise coordination with the metalworker.
