An expert jury selected four winners from 260 projects submitted. One of the prizes was awarded to the Ecological Model Estate in Munich. LignoAlp realised one construction lot of this model housing estate, 39 flats in two to four-storey buildings.
The German Timber Construction Award honours developers, architects, structural engineers and timber construction companies as the authors of the award-winning entries. The award for the Ecological Model Estate, the largest contiguous timber construction estate in Germany with 570 flats, was presented to the Department of Urban Planning and Building Regulations of the City of Munich. The City of Munich took the opportunity to link the allocation of land to ecological and social objectives. The jury therefore recognised the interplay between all the different players and factors that made this model housing estate what it is today, attracting great international interest. A remarkable process that should serve as a model for other projects in Germany.
LignoAlp realised one lot of the ecological model development, 39 flats in two to four-storey buildings in construction site WA 15 East, planned by agmm Architekten + Stadtplaner with Hable Architekten, for the "gemeinsam größer II" building community. The residential buildings with lots of wood in sight, both inside and out, were prefabricated to a high degree in the production plant. The wall elements, including windows and balcony doors, shading and timber panelling, were delivered to the construction site and assembled. The basis for this was extremely precise and careful three-dimensional planning.
Anne Katrin Bohle, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, emphasised the potential of timber construction in her welcoming speech at the award ceremony: "In the search for solutions that sustainably harmonise climate protection and resource conservation with the need for buildings for living and working, timber as a building material makes a significant contribution.[...] The award-winning projects impressively demonstrate the potential and wide range of possibilities of timber construction. They emphasise the versatility of wood as a building material and also provide incentives for future developments."
